Tragic Shark Attack Claims Woman's Life

A young woman has tragically lost her life and a man remains critically injured following a devastating shark attack at a remote New South Wales beach this morning.

Emergency services rushed to Kylies Beach within the Crowdy Bay National Park, located east of Taree, after receiving emergency calls around 6.30am on Thursday.

Emergency Response and Injuries

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a man in his 20s for serious leg injuries at the scene before coordinating an airlift to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Tragically, a woman also aged in her 20s received emergency treatment at the beach but was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics and first responders.

Beach Closure and Shark Investigation

The popular coastal area has been immediately closed to the public as officers and marine experts from the Department of Primary Industries work to determine the species of shark responsible for the attack.

According to Dorsal Watch records, the Department had previously tagged and released a 2.63-metre-long tiger shark at Burgess Beach in Forster, approximately 70 kilometres south of Kylies Beach, at about 10.50am on Wednesday.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into whether this particular shark might be connected to today's tragic incident, though no official confirmation has been provided.

The local community has been shaken by the devastating event, with beachgoers and residents urged to avoid the area until further notice while the investigation continues.
