Princes Highway crash at Mt Moriac causes traffic chaos

A significant collision between two cars on the Princes Highway at Mount Moriac caused major traffic disruptions and required a substantial emergency services response on Monday morning.

Emergency Services Rush to the Scene

Emergency services were called to the corner of the Princes Highway and Devon Road at approximately 11.30am on Monday, December 22, 2025. The incident involved a white hatchback and a grey SUV. While police described the crash as minor, the aftermath was clearly visible, with the white hatchback sustaining serious front-end damage.

Traffic Brought to a Standstill

The crash had an immediate impact on the busy highway. Traffic quickly banked up, coming to a complete stop as crews worked at the scene. To manage the congestion, two lanes of traffic were merged into one on an 80km/h stretch of road about two kilometres from the Mount Moriac Estate.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman confirmed that Advanced Life Support paramedics assessed and treated two patients at the location. Both individuals were subsequently transported to Geelong Hospital for further care. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Clean-Up and Road Clearance

A tow truck arrived at the scene around 12.20pm to remove the damaged vehicles. Crews from the Barrabool unit of the Country Fire Authority (CFA) were also in attendance, assisting with the response and ensuring the area was made safe.

The grey SUV involved in the collision was reported to have no visible external damage. The cause of the crash is not yet known, and motorists were advised to avoid the area or expect lengthy delays while the clean-up operation was underway.
