Horror Collision at Adamstown Heights Intersection
Two teenage boys are in hospital, one in a critical condition, following a serious multi-vehicle collision in Adamstown Heights on Wednesday evening. The incident, which involved a dirt bike and five cars, occurred at the busy intersection of City Road and Brunker Road just after 5:30 pm.
Emergency services, including NSW Ambulance paramedics and Newcastle police officers, rushed to the scene. They found a 17-year-old male rider and his 14-year-old male passenger both injured. The rider was treated at the scene before being transported to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, where he was later reported to be fighting for his life.
Passenger and Drivers in the Aftermath
The 14-year-old passenger, who sustained leg injuries, was also treated by paramedics. He was taken to the same hospital but was reported to be in a stable condition. In a statement, NSW Police confirmed that the five drivers involved in the collision were not physically injured. However, they were all taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing as part of standard police procedure.
The crash caused significant disruption on one of Newcastle's major thoroughfares. Traffic was thrown into gridlock as two of the three southbound lanes on City Road were closed, and the road was also blocked in the northbound direction. The clean-up and investigation efforts continued late into the night, but traffic had returned to normal by the Thursday morning commute.
Police Investigation and Appeal for Information
Given the severity of the crash, the NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit was called in to comb the scene and determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident. Police remained on-site for hours, meticulously examining the evidence.
While the investigation is ongoing, The Newcastle Herald understands that the two teenagers were riding a dirt bike with no number plates and are believed to have run a red light prior to the collision.
