Truck Speeds Wrong Way on Bruce Highway Before Fatal Head-On Crash

In a terrifying incident, dashcam vision has captured the moment a truck was seen speeding the wrong way down a major highway, moments before a deadly head-on crash occurred. Police were called to the Bruce Highway near Burpengary, north of Brisbane, shortly after 10.30pm on Tuesday following reports that multiple vehicles had been observed travelling southbound in the northbound lanes.

Shocking Collision Details

One of the vehicles travelling southbound, a white Isuzu truck, collided with a white Honda Accord travelling northbound in the correct direction, according to police statements. The shocking collision was filmed by individuals inside another car travelling south in the proper southbound lanes, providing crucial evidence of the event.

The truck appeared to be moving at approximately the same speed as the camera car on a stretch of highway with a 100km/h speed limit. In the footage, a woman is heard exclaiming "that's insane" moments before the crash, highlighting the sheer disbelief of witnesses.

Fatalities and Injuries

The Honda burst into flames upon impact, and the driver, a 26-year-old man from Caboolture, tragically died at the scene. The truck driver sustained serious head, neck, and pelvic injuries and was transported to hospital in a life-threatening condition, underscoring the severity of the collision.

Police Investigation Underway

Queensland Police Service (QPS) indicated that the truck was being followed by another vehicle, but they cannot yet confirm the total number involved, with some witness reports suggesting there may have been only one other vehicle. The truck is believed to have travelled the wrong way for at least a kilometre along the Bruce Highway, entering from Norman Road.

Police have stated they have no information to suggest the truck was stolen. A crime scene has been declared, and investigators are actively working to determine how the vehicles came to be driving on the wrong side of the highway. Authorities are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
