A tragic collision between two motorcycles has claimed the lives of two riders in the Perth suburb of Wembley, with major crash investigators now working to determine the cause.
Details of the fatal collision
The incident occurred on Grantham Street near the intersection of Pangbourne Street at approximately 10:50pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026. According to police, the two riders were travelling in opposite directions when the impact occurred.
Shocking images from the scene revealed one motorcycle lying on its side and a three-wheeled motorcycle, or trike, that sustained severe damage. Emergency services responded immediately, but one rider died at the scene. The second rider was transported to hospital but could not be saved.
Community shaken by confronting scene
A local Wembley resident named Ava, who declined to provide her surname, witnessed the aftermath while on her way to Perth Airport. "We saw everything afterwards with the police doing CPR ... very confronting," she said. Ava added that such serious crashes were uncommon in the area, making the event particularly distressing.
Another anonymous local reported hearing a loud "bang" before the sound of emergency sirens filled the air. By Friday morning, debris believed to be from the crash remained scattered across the road, a stark reminder of the night's events.
Ava praised the efforts of the first responders, noting they were doing a "very good job" under extremely difficult circumstances.
