The anonymous TikTok salon account that had Australian users guessing for months has finally been revealed as Just Cuts. The account, operating under the username "user1639036252829", posted glossy blowouts, precision trims, and salon transformations five times a week, amassing a dedicated following despite having no name, branding, or location clues.
How the Mystery Unfolded
For four months, the faceless account kept viewers hooked with high-quality hair content, while the comment sections filled with speculation about the salon's identity. The account's profile picture was a black screen, and every video remained unbranded, leaving fans to piece together the puzzle themselves.
The reveal marks the end of a carefully orchestrated social media strategy by Sydney-based agency Be Seen Socials. The agency intentionally stripped away all brand identifiers to create intrigue and drive engagement, rather than relying on existing brand recognition.
The Strategy Behind the Campaign
The campaign tapped into TikTok's biggest beauty trends, such as bouncy blowouts and polished cuts, while avoiding any overt promotional messaging. Over 40 nano creators—everyday personalities rather than major influencers—were recruited to spread the content, making it feel authentic and relatable.
According to the agency, the goal was to make viewers imagine themselves in the salon chair, and the strategy paid off. Profile views increased by 400 per cent compared to Just Cuts' previous TikTok performance, with much of the traffic coming from entirely new audiences.
Impact and Lessons
Comment sections became dominated by the question "Where is this?" as viewers tried to locate the mystery salon. The campaign demonstrated that mystery can be more effective than brand familiarity for driving engagement on social media. "The internet doesn't follow brands because they already know them; they follow accounts that entertain, intrigue, and give them a reason to return," a spokesperson for Be Seen Socials said.
For beauty brands looking to crack the TikTok code, the lesson is clear: authentic, curiosity-driven content can outperform traditional promotional strategies. Just Cuts' anonymous account succeeded by focusing on content quality and viewer engagement over brand visibility.
