The iconic Ol' Buoy coffee kiosk has officially welcomed the summer season back to Cottesloe Beach, marking the start of another year of coastal refreshments and shaded seating for beachgoers.
A Summer Tradition Returns
Ending its winter hiatus on Wednesday morning, Ol' Buoy resumed operations beneath the historic Indiana Tea House, serving its popular range of takeaway coffees and food. The pop-up kiosk's return signals the true beginning of summer for western suburbs residents.
The beloved spot celebrated its fifth anniversary with a special Instagram post featuring the message 'we are five' above 'five years of summer', highlighting that 2025 marks the fifth consecutive year the kiosk has operated at Cottesloe Beach.
What's on the Menu
Beachgoers can enjoy an array of refreshments including quality coffees, freshly baked goods, nutritious acai bowls, satisfying burgers, and classic hot chips. The kiosk also serves unique soft-serve ice cream iced lattes for those seeking cooler treats.
Local excitement built quickly on social media following the reopening announcement. Katy Mason, Councillor for the Town of Cottesloe, commented: "Please tell me the waffles are making a comeback ?? ❤️" Another enthusiast simply stated: "CAN.NOT.WAIT ?"
The Story Behind Ol' Buoy
The popular kiosk represents a successful collaboration between two local businesses. Daisies Cottesloe and Some-day Coffee Co in Floreat joined forces to create Ol' Buoy in 2021, marketing it as an innovative "new cafe concept".
Some-day Coffee co-owner Courtney James Smith explained how the venture developed organically after he formed a friendship with Daisies owner Sam Kaye during regular visits to the iconic beach. "It certainly wasn't planned; the four of us were sitting around chatting about opportunity and we'd like to see something happen and we reached out to Minderoo and Tattarang organically and it's kind of snowballed from there," Smith said in 2021.
The kiosk was developed as part of Andrew and Nicola Forrest's organisation Tattarang and the Town of Cottesloe's plans to redevelop Indiana Teahouse in 2021.

Ol' Buoy offers shaded seating perfect for enjoying beach views while sipping coffee. The kiosk operates from 6am to 2pm Monday through Friday, and 6am to 3pm on weekends, making it an ideal stop for early morning swimmers and afternoon beach visitors alike.
