The Meat & Wine Co Revamps Iconic Coco's Site in South Perth
New Premium Steakhouse Opens in South Perth Dec 12

One of South Perth's most cherished dining locations is set to begin an exciting new chapter, as premium steakhouse chain The Meat & Wine Co prepares to open its doors at the former Coco's site on December 12.

From Coco's Legacy to a New Dining Era

The waterside restaurant space, which housed the beloved Coco's for 35 years, will be revived by Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group - the same company behind acclaimed venues 6HEAD and Hunter & Barrel. The group secured the prime location earlier this year after Coco's announced it couldn't extend its lease back in April.

Laurie Thorpe, State Manager WA for The Meat & Wine Co, acknowledged the significant shoes they have to fill. "South Perth has a proud legacy of exceptional restaurants," Mr Thorpe stated. "Building on the success of our Perth CBD venue, we're confident the South Perth venue will elevate the local dining scene."

South African Soul Meets Swan River Views

The venue's transformation has been captured in exclusive renders that reveal a dramatic refurbishment leaning heavily into The Meat & Wine Co's South African heritage. Award-winning designers COOOP.co have created a 200-seat space centered around a communal fire pit, drawing inspiration from ancient cultural traditions of storytelling and gathering.

Callie Van Der Merwe, founder of COOOP.co, explained the design philosophy behind the space, aptly named Cape Point. "It pays homage to the earliest communal hubs where people came together to share stories, pass on knowledge, and build social bonds," Van Der Merwe said.

The restaurant boasts enviable views of Perth's CBD skyline and the Swan River, making it easily accessible via a short ferry ride from the chain's existing Palace Hotel location along St Georges Terrace.

A Culinary Journey Through South Africa

Meat enthusiasts can expect to be thoroughly impressed by the venue's offerings. The restaurant will feature its signature a la carte menu showcasing premium aged steak selections, alongside the launch of a special Safari Menu that delves deeper into authentic South African cuisine.

Sean Hall, the South African-born Head of Culinary, promises to bring authentic flavours from his homeland to Perth diners. The menu will include traditional dishes such as the hearty lamb curry known as Bunny Chow and the slow-braised delicacy Lamb Potjie.

The beverage program will celebrate the fruitful wine regions of both Western Australia and South Africa, offering diners a comprehensive tasting experience that bridges two renowned wine-producing cultures.

The opening marks The Meat & Wine Co's second Western Australian venue, bringing a new dimension to South Perth's dining landscape while honouring the location's rich restaurant history.
