Urgent Product Recall Issued for Popular WA Beer
An urgent product recall has been announced for a popular craft beer sold at major bottle shops across Western Australia. East Perth's Bright Tank Brewing Co has issued a critical warning for its West Side Hazy Pale 375ml cans, advising consumers not to drink the product.
What is the Safety Risk?
The recall, coordinated with Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), was initiated due to a specific manufacturing fault. The identified issue is secondary fermentation within the can. This process can cause a dangerous buildup of pressure, potentially leading the cans to burst. This fault presents a dual risk of physical injury from exploding containers and illness from consuming the affected beer.
FSANZ has officially stated that 'food products containing excess alcohol and carbonation may cause illness/injury if consumed.' They have advised that any consumers with health concerns should seek immediate medical advice.
What Should Consumers Do?
Authorities are urging anyone who has purchased the affected product to take immediate action for their safety.
Customers are instructed to:
- NOT open or drink the product.
- Safely dispose of the cans immediately.
The recalled beer, with an alcohol content of 4.5 per cent ABV, was distributed through prominent retail channels. It was available for purchase at BWS, Dan Murphy’s, and various independent alcohol retailers throughout the state.
