Artist Lida Luciarte Reveals How Painting Calms Her Mind in New Anglesea Exhibition
Artist Lida Luciarte on Painting for Mental Calm in New Show

Geelong-based artist Lida Luciarte has opened a new exhibition in Anglesea, revealing how painting serves as a calming force in her life. The exhibition, titled 'Inner Peace', showcases a collection of vibrant landscapes and abstract works that reflect her journey toward mindfulness through art.

A Personal Journey Through Art

Luciarte, who has been painting for over a decade, says the creative process helps her manage stress and anxiety. 'When I paint, I enter a state of flow where worries fade away,' she explains. 'It's a form of meditation that brings me peace.'

Exhibition Highlights

The exhibition features more than 30 pieces, including bold seascapes inspired by the Surf Coast and intricate abstract compositions. One standout work, 'Ocean Serenity', uses layers of blue and green to evoke the calming rhythm of waves. Another, 'Mindful Pathways', depicts a winding path through a forest, symbolizing the journey to inner calm.

Luciarte works primarily in acrylics, often applying paint with palette knives to create texture. 'I love the immediacy of acrylics; they allow me to capture emotions in the moment,' she says.

Art and Mental Health

The artist hopes her exhibition encourages others to explore creativity for mental well-being. 'Art doesn't have to be perfect. It's about expressing yourself and finding joy in the process,' she adds. 'I want visitors to feel inspired to pick up a brush themselves.'

Local mental health advocates have praised the exhibition for highlighting the therapeutic benefits of art. 'Creative outlets are vital for emotional health,' says Dr. Sarah Mitchell, a Geelong psychologist. 'Exhibitions like this remind us of the power of self-expression.'

Event Details

'Inner Peace' runs until March 15 at the Anglesea Art Space, 5 Cameron Road. Entry is free, and all works are available for purchase. Luciarte will host a guided meditation and painting workshop on February 22, where participants can create their own calming artwork.
