Grim Discovery After Young Man's Cliff Fall on NSW South Coast

A tragic incident has unfolded on the South Coast of New South Wales, where the body of a missing man has been recovered from a beach. According to police reports, the 23-year-old UK national tripped and fell several metres off a cliff into the water at Mystery Bay Beach, located approximately 20 minutes north of Bermagui.

The accident occurred around 6.40pm on Sunday, January 18, and the man did not resurface from the water, as confirmed by NSW Police on Wednesday. In response, a major multi-agency search operation was immediately launched, involving various emergency services. However, the search efforts were scaled back last Tuesday due to challenging conditions.

In a sombre turn of events, the young man's body was discovered washed up on Billies Beach, several hundred metres north of the original location, at about 6.05am last Friday. Authorities have now formally identified the victim, and a detailed report is being prepared for the coroner to investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.

The discovery has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers of coastal areas and the importance of safety precautions near cliffs and waterways.

Body Found on Geelong Beach with Suspect Arrested

In a separate and equally distressing case, a woman's body was found on a beach in Geelong, Victoria, leading to the arrest of a suspect. The body was located on the sand near the children's pool by the Eastern Beach Pavilion at approximately 11.25am on Wednesday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the 49-year-old woman from Springvale, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Detectives were observed at the location, removing a nearby trolley and a suitcase as part of their investigation into the incident.

Shortly after the discovery, police arrested a 53-year-old man of no fixed address in the Geelong CBD. It is believed that the man was known to the woman, and he is currently assisting police with their ongoing inquiries. At this stage, no charges have been laid, and the investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances leading to the woman's death.

This incident has raised concerns in the Geelong community, with local residents expressing shock and sadness over the tragic event on what is typically a peaceful beachfront area.
