Man Hospitalised After Gas Explosion in Chester Hill Home
A man has been seriously injured following a gas explosion at a residential property in Chester Hill, located in Western Sydney. Emergency services were alerted to the incident on Monday afternoon after multiple reports of loud bangs and visible smoke emanating from a home on Grevillea Rd.
Emergency Response and Injuries
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews arrived at the scene around 12.30pm, finding no active fire but one individual with significant injuries. NSW Ambulance reported that the man, aged in his 50s, suffered burns to his face and shrapnel injuries to his leg. He was transported to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition. No other injuries were reported at the site.
Investigation into the Cause
Preliminary investigations by FRNSW indicate that the explosion may have been caused by a welding accident. Authorities noted that the gas bottle itself did not explode, suggesting the incident was related to mishandling or equipment failure during welding activities. Specialist HAZMAT firefighters conducted thorough atmospheric testing using advanced gas detectors, confirming no residual hazards or issues in the area.
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols in residential welding operations. Emergency services continue to monitor the situation, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
