A new dental clinic could bring Grovedale its third medical centre in a row, as plans have been lodged with the council for a multi-storey development on Pioneer Road.
Proposed Development Details
The application, submitted to the City of Greater Geelong, seeks to build a three-storey medical and dental centre at 123 Pioneer Road. The development would include a dental clinic on the ground floor, with medical consulting rooms on the upper levels. The site is currently vacant land, located near existing medical facilities.
According to planning documents, the proposed centre would feature 15 consulting rooms, a reception area, waiting rooms, and staff amenities. The building would also include a basement car park with 30 spaces, with additional parking on the ground level.
Community Impact
The proposal has sparked mixed reactions from local residents. Some welcome the additional healthcare services, citing growing demand in the area. Grovedale resident Sarah Thompson said, "We need more medical facilities here. The existing centres are often fully booked, and having another option would be great for the community."
However, others have raised concerns about traffic congestion and parking. John Miller, who lives nearby, commented, "Pioneer Road is already busy during peak hours. Adding another medical centre will only make it worse. The council needs to consider the impact on local traffic."
Council Review
The City of Greater Geelong will assess the application, considering factors such as traffic, parking, and community feedback. A council spokesperson said, "We will carefully evaluate the proposal to ensure it meets planning requirements and addresses any concerns raised by residents."
If approved, construction could begin in early 2025, with the centre expected to open by mid-2026. The development is part of a broader trend of healthcare expansion in Geelong's southern suburbs.
