Mobile Wood-Fire Sauna Business 'Bondfire' Launches for Illawarra Events
Mobile Wood-Fire Sauna 'Bondfire' for Illawarra Events

A new mobile wood-fire sauna business, Bondfire Sauna, has launched in the Illawarra region, offering a unique wellness experience for events, festivals, and private gatherings. The business, founded by local entrepreneur Alex Johnson, brings the traditional Finnish sauna experience to the Australian outdoors, using a wood-fired heater to create a relaxing and social atmosphere.

Bringing Sauna Culture to Events

Bondfire Sauna is designed to be a mobile unit that can be set up at various locations, making it ideal for weddings, corporate events, music festivals, and community gatherings. The sauna can accommodate up to eight people at a time, providing a warm retreat during cooler months or a unique addition to summer events.

Johnson, who has a background in outdoor recreation and wellness, said the idea came from his own love of saunas and a desire to share that experience with others. “Saunas are a great way to relax, socialize, and improve your health,” he said. “I wanted to create something that could be brought to people, rather than requiring them to travel to a fixed location.”

How It Works

The sauna is built on a trailer and features a wood-fired stove that heats the interior to temperatures between 70 and 90 degrees Celsius. The experience includes a cold plunge option, with a portable ice bath or a nearby natural water source, to enhance the contrast and health benefits. Sessions typically last 45 minutes, with breaks for cooling down.

Johnson emphasized the health benefits of regular sauna use, including improved circulation, reduced stress, and better sleep. He also noted the social aspect, as the sauna provides a space for people to connect without distractions.

Community and Sustainability

Bondfire Sauna is committed to sustainability, using locally sourced firewood and eco-friendly materials in its construction. The business also plans to partner with local events and organizations to promote wellness and community engagement.

“We want to be part of the local community, not just a service provider,” Johnson said. “We’re excited to see how people respond to this new way of experiencing wellness at events.”

The mobile sauna is available for hire in the Illawarra region, including Wollongong, Shellharbour, and the Southern Highlands. For more information, visit the Bondfire Sauna website or social media pages.
