Three people have been left injured after a violent dog attack in the Hunter region, with a loose dog first targeting a couple on a walk before forcing its way into a nearby home and ambushing a teenage boy.
Chaotic Night in Scott Close
Emergency services were called to Scott Close in Raymond Terrace shortly before 11pm on Monday, December 29, 2025. The call came after multiple reports flooded in about a large, aggressive dog on the loose and attacking people in the residential street.
Port Stephens-Hunter police arrived swiftly on the scene. They discovered the dog, which was described as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier-Mastiff cross, had already bitten three victims. The injured parties were a 36-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man, and a 14-year-old boy.
Attack Sequence: From Street to Home
According to police accounts, the couple in their 30s were simply walking along the street when the dog launched its initial, unprovoked attack. After assaulting the walkers, the dog did not flee. Instead, it ran into a house on the same street.
Once inside the home, the dog ambushed a 14-year-old boy, biting him and adding to the night's terror. The sequence of events turned a quiet evening into a scene of panic and injury.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation
Paramedics treated all three victims at the scene for their injuries. While the bites were serious, they were not believed to be life-threatening. All three were subsequently transported to John Hunter Hospital for further medical care.
Faced with the immediate danger posed by the aggressive animal, police made the difficult decision to euthanise the dog at the scene. Their focus has now shifted to finding the dog's owner.
Police are working in conjunction with local council rangers as inquiries continue. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or the dog's owner to come forward. Information can be provided to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via their online portal.
