An Australian man has died following a scuba diving accident in Bali, with local authorities reporting that he panicked during the dive and removed his breathing apparatus. The incident occurred while the man, a resident of New South Wales, was diving with two instructors at a depth of 15 meters.
According to local police, the man removed his regulator before making a rapid ascent to the surface, a dangerous maneuver that can be fatal. A nearby fisherman rushed to assist the unconscious man, but despite efforts to revive him, he could not be saved.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of the Australian who died in Bali. “We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” a DFAT spokesperson said.
