A 28-year-old woman accused of murdering her eight-month-old baby has appeared in a Perth court with her case adjourned for completion of a crucial forensic psychiatric report.

Alanah Gail Smithwick appeared via videolink at Stirling Gardens Magistrate Court on Wednesday with her right arm encased in a distinctive pink plaster cast. The defendant has remained in custody since her arrest on October 30, when homicide detectives discovered her infant son deceased at a residential property on Winpara Way in Baldivis.
Police found Ms Smithwick injured at the same scene and transported her to Rockingham General Hospital for medical treatment. Sources indicate the injuries resulted from a sharp-edged weapon, though specific details surrounding the circumstances remain unclear.
