Mission Beach driver faces court over alleged high-range drink driving
Mission Beach high-range drink driving charge

A 36-year-old man is facing serious consequences after being charged with high-range drink driving on a popular Far North Queensland road near Mission Beach.

Early Morning Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

Police were conducting a traffic operation on Mission Beach Road at Wongaling Beach when they stopped the driver around 6:45 am on Tuesday. Officers immediately noticed signs that suggested the man might be under the influence of alcohol.

The driver underwent a roadside breath test which returned a positive result. He was then transported to the Tully Police Station for further testing.

Shocking Breath Analysis Results

At the police station, a more precise breath analysis revealed the man had an alleged blood alcohol concentration of 0.215% - more than four times the legal limit of 0.05%.

This reading falls into the high-range drink driving category under Queensland law, which carries severe penalties for offenders.

Court Appearance and Licence Suspension

The man, who resides at Mission Beach, was issued with a notice to appear in the Tully Magistrates Court on August 26 to face the high-range drink driving charge.

Police immediately suspended the man's driver licence under Queensland's instant suspension laws for high-range offences.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson emphasized the seriousness of the offence, stating that driving with such a high blood alcohol level creates significant danger for all road users.

The incident serves as a stark reminder about the consequences of drink driving, particularly in regional areas where alternative transport options may be limited.
