Police Issue Fine to P-Plate Driver After Catching Burnout in Murrays Beach
Police have taken a firm stance against hoon activity, fining a P-plate driver who was caught mid-burnout during targeted patrols in Murrays Beach. The incident occurred on Thursday, March 26, at approximately 1.35pm, when officers from the Hunter Highway Patrol observed a ute performing a burnout in the area.
Driver Penalised with Fine and Demerit Points
Officers immediately stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, a 21-year-old man from Catherine Hill Bay who holds a P2 provisional licence. He was issued an infringement notice for two offences, resulting in a combined penalty of a $971 fine and the loss of three demerit points. This action underscores the police's commitment to cracking down on dangerous driving behaviours.
Zero Tolerance Policy on Hoon Activity
Chief Inspector Thomas Barnes emphasised that officers will continue to patrol Murrays Beach and surrounding suburbs at various times, both day and night, to target hoon activity. "Motorists, particularly those with provisional licences, should be aware that officers will show zero tolerance to any person engaging in dangerous behaviour on our roads," he stated. Barnes warned that police are well-informed about where hoons gather, the vehicles they drive, and their personal details, indicating that enforcement could extend beyond immediate stops to include home visits or vehicle seizures.
Community Encouraged to Report Dangerous Driving
In addition to proactive patrols, police have urged the public to assist in combating negligent driving by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 with any relevant information. This collaborative approach aims to enhance road safety and deter future incidents of hoon behaviour in the region.
