Three Men Face Charges Following Fatal Hunting Incident in New South Wales

Emergency services were called to a property at Come by Chance, approximately 55 kilometres south-east of Walgett, around 6 a.m. on March 1, 2024. Reports indicated that a man had fallen from a utility vehicle while hunting. Upon arrival, paramedics treated a 47-year-old man for a gunshot wound, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police from the Central North district immediately established a crime scene and seized all firearms as part of their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Arrests and Charges Following Lengthy Investigation
Following an extensive investigation under Strike Force McCudden, detectives made a significant breakthrough on Friday. They arrested a 45-year-old man at Mount Druitt Police Station. He has been charged with manslaughter and using an unauthorised firearm. Initially refused bail, he later appeared in Mount Druitt Local Court, where he was granted conditional bail. He is scheduled to face Walgett Local Court on May 11.
In addition to this arrest, two other members of the hunting group have also been charged in connection with the incident. A 42-year-old man was issued a court attendance notice for giving a firearm to a person not authorised to use it, while a 39-year-old man received a notice for using an unauthorised firearm. Both individuals are due to appear in Walgett Local Court on May 11, where further legal proceedings will unfold.
