Taylor explained that since May of last year, he had worked diligently as a member of the leadership group and Shadow Cabinet to help the Liberal Party regroup and rebuild following the federal election. "Despite these efforts, the Liberal Party's position under Sussan Ley's leadership has continued to deteriorate, leaving it weaker than at any time since its formation in 1944," Taylor stated in his resignation announcement.
Consulting with Colleagues on Party's Future
While Taylor has not formally declared his intention to contest the leadership, he indicated he would be engaging in discussions with fellow MPs about the party's direction. "In the period ahead, I will be consulting closely with colleagues about the future of our Party, so it can once again be the party that Australians expect and deserve," he said.
