Police Shoot Man in Potts Point Following Alleged Assault on Two Women
A man has been shot by police in inner-city Sydney after allegedly assaulting two women with a weapon, marking the second such incident in New South Wales within just a few hours. The shooting occurred at a property on St Neot Avenue in Potts Point around 10:50 AM on Monday.
Details of the Incident
According to NSW Police, the man entered the unit complex armed with a weapon and assaulted two women inside. Responding officers deployed a taser, but it proved ineffective. Police allege that the man then threatened attending officers with the weapon, prompting a police officer to discharge a firearm, resulting in the man sustaining gunshot injuries.
The condition of the man and the alleged stabbing victims remains unknown at this stage. The investigation into the shooting will be subject to an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and will be overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
Second Police Shooting in Newcastle
Earlier on Monday, in an unrelated incident in Newcastle, NSW Police shot another man. A 36-year-old man was hospitalised with a gunshot wound to the shoulder after he allegedly threatened police with an edged weapon. Police had forced entry into a unit on Honeysuckle Drive during an arrest attempt around 8:30 AM. He remains in hospital under police guard.
