Emergency services rushed to a property on Castlereagh Street in Singleton at approximately 5:30pm on Sunday, November 9, 2025, after reports of a fire.

Dramatic Escape and Arrest

Police at the scene were told that a 41-year-old man had allegedly thrown fuel on a 68-year-old man known to him. In a lucky escape, the older man managed to flee the scene unharmed and quickly rinse the flammable liquid from his body.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Charges Laid After Police Investigation

Officers arrested the younger man at the scene and took him to Cessnock Police Station. During a search, police allegedly uncovered a quantity of methamphetamine in his possession.

The man was subsequently charged with serious domestic violence offences, including throwing an explosive with intent to maim and damaging property by fire or explosion. He also faces a charge of possessing a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and spent the night in custody before his appearance at bail court on Monday, November 10.
