CCTV Footage Released in Investigation of Suspicious Fires at Mackay Tobacconist

Police in northern Queensland have made public CCTV footage depicting two masked individuals as part of an ongoing investigation into a series of suspicious fires that have targeted the same business in Andergrove, Mackay. The footage shows the suspects wearing masks and gloves, with one person notably dressed in a black and white checkered shirt, near the tobacconist on Celeber Rd.

Timeline of the Fires

The first incident was reported at approximately 4.40am on January 13, when a fire broke out at the rear of the tobacconist. Emergency services responded quickly, extinguishing the blaze and declaring a crime scene shortly thereafter.

A second fire occurred at the same location on February 14. Police were notified around 7.50am, but the fire had already been extinguished several hours earlier, before officers arrived on the scene.

The third fire took place between 4.45am and 6am on February 18, resulting in minor damage before it was brought under control. Witnesses reported seeing two unknown individuals fleeing the area towards Parkview Ct.

A fourth and more severe fire was reported between 11.50pm on February 27 and 12.10am on February 28. This blaze spread to neighbouring businesses before emergency services managed to extinguish it. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported in any of these incidents.

Police Appeal for Information

Queensland Police are urging anyone with information or relevant video footage to come forward as investigations continue. The released CCTV captures key moments, including smoke, flames, and an explosion as the fires were ignited, providing crucial evidence in the case.
