$3 Million Abbeville Park Upgrade Set for January Construction Start
Mindarie's $3M Abbeville Park Upgrade Begins January

Major Park Upgrade Gets Green Light

A significant $3 million upgrade for Abbeville Park in the northern coastal suburb of Mindarie is officially progressing, with construction on a brand new sports amenities building scheduled to commence in January 2025. The City of Wanneroo is driving the project forward, with plans to award the construction contract at its upcoming council meeting.

Staged Construction and Funding

The project will be delivered in two distinct stages to manage the scope and budget effectively. The initial stage, which has $471,424 allocated in the 2025-26 capital works budget, focuses on essential player facilities.

Stage one includes the construction of:

  • New changerooms for athletes
  • A dedicated referees' room
  • A first aid room
  • A storeroom for equipment

Osborne Park-based construction firm Orixon is the recommended contractor for this first phase, with completion expected around September 2026.

The second stage, earmarked for the 2026-27 budget with a substantial $2.6 million allocation, will expand the pavilion's community functionality. This phase is set to include a multipurpose room, an extended kitchen, additional internal storage, and new male, female, and universal access toilets.

Boosting Local Sporting Clubs

This long-awaited upgrade will be a major win for the local sporting community. The enhanced facilities at the park, located along Rothesay Heights, will directly benefit three primary user groups: the Mindarie Football Club, the Mindarie Little Athletics Club, and the Quinns Rocks Junior Cricket Club.

The project received overwhelming community support during its consultation phase in June 2024. The City sent letters with the proposed concept design to 1,253 residents and received only four responses, none of which were negative, clearing the path for the project to proceed.

The final administrative step is a vote by Wanneroo councillors on the city's recommendation at the next ordinary council meeting on Tuesday, November 25.
