$3M South Perth Foreshore Restaurant & Bar Plan Opens for Public Comment
New South Perth Restaurant Plan Seeks Public Feedback

A proposal for a brand-new restaurant, bar, and kiosk on the prized South Perth foreshore has been officially lodged and is now seeking feedback from the community.

The application, submitted to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, outlines a $3 million single-storey development for the site at 5 Millers Point Road, nestled between the iconic Millers Pool and the Swan River.

Design and Ambition of the New Venue

The architectural plans feature a modern design with lightweight walls, rammed earth walls, and extensive glazing to maximise the stunning views of Kings Park and Elizabeth Quay. The roof will be a combination of concrete and metal deck.

The venue is designed to host up to 150 patrons and will employ approximately 14 staff members. It will include full kitchen and bar service areas, toilets, storerooms, and end-of-trip facilities.

A key feature is a dedicated kiosk on the south-eastern portion of the building, accessible via the existing pedestrian footpath. This kiosk will offer simple food and drinks, aiming to be a stop for cyclists and walkers enjoying the foreshore.

Community Focus and Cultural Connections

The proposal strongly emphasises community engagement and cultural recognition. A forecourt area with seating and landscaping is planned for the kiosk, providing a space to relax and enjoy the view.

An integrated amphitheatre, referred to as a 'yarn circle', is designed to foster gathering and storytelling. Furthermore, the design pays homage to the area's Indigenous heritage by integrating the Whadjuk fish trap song as imprints on the restaurant's exterior.

The design inspiration for the rammed earth spine wall is drawn from the textured bark of the paperbark tree, creating a strong connection to the local environment.

Operational Details and Background

If approved, the proposed opening hours for the restaurant and bar are from 11:30 am to before midnight, Tuesday to Sunday. The kiosk would operate from 5:30 am to 7:00 pm.

The project is backed by experienced hospitality figures Christian Tinelli and his father Umberto Tinelli, whose family has over 65 years of combined experience operating 14 Perth venues.

The luxury builders and architects Giorgi are slated to undertake the construction. The development will utilise the existing Millers Pool Carpark 11, which contains 65 bays.

The application is now open for public comment until November 24. If the development is successful, construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.
