Teen Charged After Smashing Police Vehicle Windows at Belmont Station

A 17-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly smashing the windows of a police vehicle outside Belmont police station in Lake Macquarie early Friday morning.

Police were called to the station on Herbert Street around 3:50am on March 13 after reports of a person repeatedly hitting a parked police vehicle with a hammer. Officers found four windows of the vehicle had been smashed.

The teenager was arrested a short time later on Herbert Street, near the police station. He was charged with breach of bail, destroying or damaging property, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, and hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before a children's court on Monday, March 16.
