Chilling police interview footage has emerged showing the moment a man accused of a deadly knife attack in an Adelaide real estate office told detectives he wanted to kill someone that day. In the disturbing video obtained by 7NEWS, 32-year-old Shaun Michaels Dunk can be heard making a stark admission just hours after he allegedly murdered Julie Seed and attempted to kill her workmate, Susan Scardigno, at their Plympton workplace.
Calm Confession of Violent Intent
During a four-hour long police interview released by the Adelaide Supreme Court, Dunk appeared remarkably calm and composed as he described his intentions. I went out with the intention to kill someone today. It's just been something that I wanted to do for a long time, I guess, Dunk told detectives in the footage that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Targeting Vulnerable Victims
The accused described deliberately scoping out his alleged target, expressing a preference for small businesses with few employees. He ultimately found two women working alone in the Plympton real estate office, which he described as an easy target. I thought it would just be, like, easy people to attack working there. I just thought that was something that I wanted to do, so I don't know, he explained to investigators.
Disturbing Details of the Attack
When questioned by police about whether his intention was to continue stabbing, Dunk gave a chilling response: I don't know, just until I felt satisfied. You're stabbing someone, you know what I mean? It's just pretty, like... it's a commitment. The accused was armed with both a knife and a meat tenderiser, which he used to subdue Seed before stabbing her.
Tragic Outcome and Ongoing Trial
Julie Seed tragically died at the scene, while Susan Scardigno survived despite suffering five knife wounds to her chest. Dunk also admitted during the interview that he was almost caught with the weapons the day before the violent attack occurred.
The accused is currently standing trial to determine whether he was mentally competent at the time of the alleged crime. The release of this police interview footage provides unprecedented insight into the mindset of the accused and has become a crucial element in the ongoing legal proceedings.
