Father charged with murder after fatal Doomadgee crash

Tragedy Strikes Remote Queensland Community

A domestic violence incident has culminated in tragedy in Far North Queensland, with a father now facing murder charges after a horrific crash claimed the lives of his partner and their young daughter.

Queensland Police have confirmed that a 30-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder following the fatal collision on Doomadgee Road in the early hours of November 7.

Horrific Crash Scene in Outback Town

Emergency services were called to the remote location approximately 6:30am on November 7 after a white 2006 Toyota LandCruiser and a black 2011 Nissan Maxima collided in the rural town of Doomadgee.

The town, situated about a two-hour drive from the Northern Territory border, became the scene of what authorities described as "nothing short of a tragedy."

Police investigators allege the Nissan deliberately rammed the LandCruiser, causing the larger vehicle to roll. Both cars sustained catastrophic damage in the impact.

Community Mourns Mother and Daughter

Tragically, the driver of the LandCruiser - identified as a 30-year-old woman from Cloncurry - died at the scene from her injuries. A 10-year-old girl, understood to be her daughter, also lost her life in the crash.

Three other young children travelling in the vehicle suffered serious injuries. The victims include a one-year-old boy, a three-year-old girl, and a four-year-old boy, all of whom required urgent medical treatment.

Acting Superintendent Paul Austin expressed the profound impact on the small community, stating: "The grief in the community has been extreme. We continue to support the people affected while carrying out a thorough investigation."

Multiple Charges Laid in Domestic Violence Case

The Queensland Police Service has laid serious charges against the 30-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

He now faces:

  • Two counts of murder (domestic violence offence)
  • Three counts of attempted murder (domestic violence offence against a child)
  • One count of contravention of a domestic violence order (aggravated offence)

Detectives from the Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch have confirmed the man was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Following the incident, Queensland Police deployed significant resources to the remote location, including specialist forensic teams from the Homicide Investigation Unit.

Police described images of the wrecked vehicles as "confronting" but necessary for their investigation, while also thanking the Doomadgee community for their assistance during the difficult investigation.
