Man assaulted, robbed after rescuing dog in forest

A man was allegedly assaulted and robbed after he stopped to rescue a dog that he found wandering on a road in a state forest near Captains Flat on Friday, April 24.

According to NSW Police, a 56-year-old man was driving through the Tallaganda State Forest around 6pm when he noticed a pigging dog standing in the middle of the road. Concerned for the animal's safety and believing it may have escaped from a nearby property, the man stopped his vehicle and placed the dog inside.

Police say that shortly afterward, an older white Toyota Hilux dual cab utility vehicle with multiple spotlights approached the man from the direction of the state forest. Two men exited the vehicle, and one of them allegedly assaulted the 56-year-old victim. The pair then allegedly stole several of his belongings and took the dog.

The second suspect is also described as Caucasian with a solid build, medium-length dark hair, and a beard. He was wearing a red flannelette shirt.

There were three dogs in the back of the utility vehicle: one lighter in colour and two black in colour.

Police have urged anyone with dashcam or trail camera footage from the Tallaganda State Forest area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
