Brazen Drive-By Shooting Captured on Video
A shocking drive-by shooting in Sydney's western suburbs has led to charges against a teenage boy and a young man, with police alleging the pair recorded their criminal act and shared it on social media.
The incident occurred around 6:30am on Friday on Aberdeen Street in Bossley Park, when a white Audi sedan allegedly pulled up outside a residential property and unleashed more than 20 bullets at the home.
Disturbingly, the alleged perpetrators filmed the entire attack, with footage showing what appears to be an AK-47 assault rifle being fired from the back seat of the vehicle.
Dramatic Police Investigation and Arrests
Following the shooting, the suspects allegedly fled the scene but crashed the Audi at the intersection of Mimosa and Prairie Vale roads, where they abandoned the vehicle.
Police established multiple crime scenes and discovered an automatic firearm inside the crashed car.
The 22-year-old man was arrested later that day at approximately 1:30pm at a Woodville Road address in Fairfield West. During the arrest, officers seized a shortened calibre rifle, ammunition and several mobile phones from the property.
The 16-year-old boy was taken into custody about 6:15pm the same day after police stopped a vehicle on Camden Valley Way in Leppington.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Both individuals now face serious charges related to the incident. The 22-year-old man has been charged with:
- Firing a firearm at a dwelling during organised criminal activity
- Participating in a criminal group
The teenage boy faces additional charges including:
- Firing a firearm at a dwelling during organised criminal activity
- Participating in a criminal group
- Being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner's consent
Both were refused bail and are scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
Police executed further search warrants on Saturday at a River Mint Ave home in Leppington, where they allegedly located and seized additional ammunition and clothing.
Innocent Couple Targeted in Attack
The victims of this terrifying attack, Maria Uzabeaga and her husband Patricio, were asleep inside their home when the shooting occurred. Maria narrowly avoided injury during the barrage of bullets.
In a concerning development, the couple revealed their home had also been shot at the day before this incident.
Patricio Uzabeaga expressed confusion about why they were targeted, telling police they have no idea why their home was attacked.
Authorities are currently investigating whether this was a case of mistaken identity and examining possible connections to organised criminal activity in Western Sydney.
