Two charged after wild Wagga Wagga chase

Violent Night Chase Ends With Critical Injuries

A chaotic overnight confrontation in southwest New South Wales has resulted in two men facing court and a woman fighting serious injuries after what police describe as a wild tit-for-tat chase between a car driver and motorbike riders.

The incident began in the early hours of Friday morning around 2:30am in the Wagga Wagga suburb of Glenfield Park. According to police allegations, an 18-year-old man punched and shattered the front window of a home while a 22-year-old woman acted as his getaway driver on a motorbike.

Retaliation Turns Dangerous

The 53-year-old resident of the targeted home allegedly took matters into his own hands, pursuing the motorbike in his car toward Fernleigh Road in nearby Ashmont. Police claim the situation escalated dramatically when the older man deliberately smashed into the motorbike, causing both riders to fall to the ground.

The confrontation didn't end there. Investigators allege the driver then reversed his vehicle before driving forward over the motorbike itself and leaving the scene without offering assistance to the injured riders.

The female pillion passenger suffered critical injuries from the collision and required immediate treatment at the scene before being rushed to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. Her condition was serious enough that she was later transferred to St George Hospital for specialized care.

Multiple Charges Laid

The younger man sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene before police arrested him. He has been charged with destroying or damaging property and failing to wear a properly fitted helmet. The court granted him conditional bail, and he's scheduled to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court on January 28.

Police arrested the 53-year-old man at a Glenfield Park home approximately six hours later at 8:30am on Friday. He faces a much more serious list of charges including:

  • Negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm
  • Causing bodily harm by misconduct
  • Failing to stop and assist after a crash causing grievous bodily harm
  • Failing to provide particulars to the injured person
  • Failing to keep a firearm safely

Authorities refused the older man bail, and he was scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 5 on Saturday.

Parties Known to Each Other

NSW Police confirmed to 7NEWS that the two parties involved in the incident are known to each other, providing some context to the violent confrontation. Investigators emphasized there are no ongoing threats to the wider public stemming from the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the dangerous chase and its serious consequences. The case highlights the dangers of taking law enforcement into private hands, with what began as property damage escalating into life-threatening injuries.
