The wife of accused murderer Rajwinder Singh has broken her silence, revealing chilling details about their final day together before he abruptly fled to India following the alleged killing of Toyah Cordingley.
The Last Normal Day
In an exclusive interview, the woman described November 22, 2018 - the day before her husband allegedly murdered 24-year-old Toyah Cordingley - as completely ordinary. Rajwinder Singh, then a 38-year-old nurse, spent what would be his last day in Australia going about his usual routine with his family in Cairns.
"He went to work like any other day," his wife recalled. "There was nothing unusual about his behavior that would suggest what was about to happen." The couple went about their normal activities, completely unaware that their lives were about to be shattered forever.
The Sudden Disappearance
The day after Cordingley's brutal murder at Wangetti Beach, Singh's behavior changed dramatically. Without warning or explanation, he told his wife he needed to travel to India urgently. He provided no specific reason for the sudden trip, leaving his family confused and concerned.
"He said he had to go to India immediately," his wife explained. "He didn't give me any proper reason why he had to leave so suddenly." The haste of his departure raised immediate red flags, with Singh abandoning his car at Cairns Airport before boarding a flight to Delhi.
The timing proved highly suspicious. Toyah Cordingley's body was discovered on October 22, 2018, by her own father at Wangetti Beach north of Cairns. The 24-year-old had taken her dog for a walk and never returned home.
International Manhunt and Arrest
Singh's flight to India triggered an extensive international investigation that would span more than four years. Australian authorities worked closely with Indian police to track down the accused murderer. The breakthrough finally came in November 2022 when Singh was arrested in Delhi.
The extradition process faced numerous legal challenges until Singh ultimately agreed to return to Australia voluntarily in March 2023. His decision to waive his right to fight extradition marked a significant turning point in the long-running case.
Since his return to Queensland, Singh has been held in custody while legal proceedings continue. The case has drawn widespread attention across Australia, particularly in Far North Queensland where the tragic murder occurred.
The revelations from Singh's wife provide crucial insight into the immediate aftermath of the alleged crime and the beginning of an international pursuit for justice that would test the resolve of Australian authorities and the Cordingley family alike.
