Man arrested after four-hour axe siege in South Nowra

A dramatic four-hour siege has ended with the arrest of a man allegedly armed with an axe on the New South Wales South Coast.

Tense Standoff on Holloway Road

The incident began around 7pm on Friday when police say a 24-year-old man stormed a residential property on Holloway Road in South Nowra. According to authorities, the man was allegedly carrying an axe when he entered the home.

Inside the property, the situation quickly escalated as the man allegedly took three people hostage: a 53-year-old woman and two 49-year-old men. In a fortunate development, three other women managed to escape the property before police arrived at the scene.

Specialist Police Storm Property

Specialist officers from the Tactical Operations Unit were called to handle the dangerous situation. After hours of negotiations and planning, the tactical team moved in at 11:15pm, storming the property and successfully taking the suspect into custody without further escalation.

Following his arrest, paramedics treated the 24-year-old man for lower-body injuries before he was transported to Shoalhaven Hospital under police guard for further medical assessment.

Hostages Suffer Minor Injuries

The three hostages were also medically assessed following their ordeal. The 53-year-old woman sustained a minor arm injury during the incident. The two 49-year-old men were also taken to hospital in stable condition with minor upper-body injuries.

Police confirmed that no charges have been laid yet as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the siege continue. The motive behind the alleged home invasion and hostage situation remains unclear at this early stage.
