Serena Copley Secures Liberal Pre-selection for Kiama, Targets Labor's 'Broken Promises'
After an unsuccessful bid in last year's by-election, Serena Copley has been officially confirmed as the Liberal Party's candidate for the electorate of Kiama in next year's New South Wales state election. The business operator and former Shoalhaven Councillor is already positioning herself as a vocal critic of the current state government, vowing to hold them accountable for what she describes as unfulfilled commitments.
A Champion for the Community
Ms Copley, who has lived in the region for more than three decades with four generations of her family rooted in the area, emphasised her deep local connections and understanding of community issues. "I want to be a champion for Kiama, and I'll fight for better outcomes every day," she declared. "Our community is paying the price under Labor."
She pointed to her extensive experience, including time on council, as evidence of her capability to deliver tangible results. "We need a local who knows the issues and delivers results - and I have a strong track record of delivery," Ms Copley asserted.
Holding the Government to Account
The newly pre-selected candidate stated she is actively working to ensure the state government is held responsible for promises made during the previous by-election campaign. "To ensure Kiama gets more than just broken promises from this government," she remarked, highlighting a key theme of her campaign.
Ms Copley outlined several pressing concerns facing the electorate, painting a picture of a community under strain. "Families have been doing it really tough under Labor," she said. "Household budgets are stretched to breaking point, housing is unaffordable, trains are slower and less reliable, essential services and infrastructure are falling behind, and our region isn't getting the investment it needs."
She concluded with a firm commitment: "It's not good enough - our community deserves better."
Background and Community Involvement
Beyond her political aspirations, Serena Copley is actively involved in the local community through various roles. She works in educating young people and partners with local businesses to train and upskill employees through traineeships and sector-specific qualifications. Additionally, she volunteers with Meals on Wheels, demonstrating a hands-on approach to community service.
Her pre-selection was marked by her appearance alongside state Liberal leader Kellie Sloane, signalling party support as she prepares for the electoral battle ahead. With the state election on the horizon, Ms Copley's campaign is set to focus sharply on accountability, local representation, and addressing the everyday challenges faced by residents in the Kiama region.
