Chelsea Complete Xhaka Signing, Sell Chalobah to Como
Chelsea Sign Xhaka, Sell Chalobah to Como

Chelsea have completed the signing of midfielder Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen for £22m, while defender Trevoh Chalobah has moved to Serie A side Como for £15m in a double transfer deal announced on Friday.

Xhaka Reunites with Maresca

The 33-year-old Switzerland international has signed a two-year contract with the option of a further year, reuniting with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who previously coached him at Basel. Xhaka made 42 appearances for Leverkusen last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists, as the German side finished third in the Bundesliga.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Xhaka said. “Chelsea is a huge club with a rich history, and I’m excited to work with Enzo again. He knows my game well, and I think we can achieve great things together.”

Chalobah Departs for Italy

Chalobah, 25, leaves Chelsea after coming through the academy and making 63 first-team appearances. The centre-back joined Sunderland on loan in January, making 15 appearances for the Championship side. Como, newly promoted to Serie A, have signed him on a four-year deal worth £15m, with add-ons potentially increasing the fee to £18m.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Chelsea for their support,” Chalobah said. “I’m looking forward to a new challenge in Italy and helping Como establish themselves in Serie A.”

Impact on Chelsea Squad

The moves free up space and funds for Chelsea as they continue to reshape their squad under Maresca. Xhaka’s experience and leadership are expected to bolster midfield options, while Chalobah’s departure reduces competition in defence. The club has now recouped £37m from the two deals, with further sales expected before the transfer window closes.
