Wolverhampton Wanderers have dismissed manager Rob Edwards after his inability to steer the struggling Midlands club away from Premier League relegation. Edwards, who was appointed in November last year on a three-and-a-half-year contract, failed to improve the team's fortunes following their fall to the bottom of the table.
Edwards' tenure at Wolves
Edwards took over the reins at Molineux after the sacking of Vítor Pereira, who now manages Nottingham Forest. At the time of his appointment, Wolves were languishing at the foot of the Premier League standings with a mere two points from 11 matches. Despite his efforts, Edwards could not reverse the club's decline, and Wolves were relegated in April, ending an eight-year stint in the top flight of English football.
Replacement target identified
The club has identified César Peixoto, the current manager of Portuguese side Gil Vicente, as the preferred candidate to replace Edwards. Peixoto is understood to be the prime target as Wolves prepare for life in the Championship.
In addition to the managerial change, Wolves have already begun strengthening their squad for the second division by securing the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raúl Jiménez. These moves signal the club's intent to mount a strong promotion challenge next season.
