Southside Demons Thrash Rangers, Maintain WANL Lead

Southside Demons continue to lead the way in the WA Netball League, thrashing the winless Rangers 69-42 in round seven to retain their place at the top of the table.

Demons Dominate from Start

The Demons ambushed the Roar with a 23-8 opening term and were never headed, led by goal shooters Meg Gallagher with 32 goals and Georgia Pitt, celebrating her 150th game, with 23. Rangers captain Myra Ugle continued her stellar season with 36 goals, her highest tally for the year.

Western Roar Keep Pace

The Western Roar continue to nip at the Demons’ heels, in second place by percentage, after a comfortable 56-32 win over Peel Lightning. The Roar dominated every quarter, winning each by at least four goals, with Sophia Lamers shooting a season-high 42 goals, and young Teagan Begovich adding nine.

Comets Edge Sharks in Thriller

Reigning premiers Comets moved up to third after a narrow win over fellow finals contenders the Fremantle Sharks, storming home from four goals down at three-quarter time to win 51-48. Madeleine Ash top-scored for the Comets with 28 goals, Aitua Enara shot 19 in just her third game from a years-long injury, and Aisha Morcombe hit 35 for the Sharks. Comets captain Georgia Morgan celebrated her 100th game.

Warriors Rout Jets

Warriors round out the top four, and with the biggest percentage of the league, after a 68-46 thumping of Souwest Jets. Warrior Zoe Harper scored 38 goals and Jade Dimer nine in her first year of Opens netball.

Men’s Results

In the men’s, Demons are also on top of the ladder after a 51-48 win over Comets, Warriors beat Rangers 66-52 to sit second, and Western Roar thrashed Peel Lightning 63-44.
