Canberra Raiders young gun Ethan Strange has been backed to start for the NSW Blues in State of Origin II, following an injury to superstar Latrell Mitchell. The 20-year-old five-eighth has impressed in his debut NRL season, earning a call-up to the Blues squad for the crucial clash at Suncorp Stadium.
Strange's Rise to Origin
Strange, who has played 12 NRL games for the Raiders, has been earmarked as a future star since his junior days. His ability to play both five-eighth and centre makes him a versatile option for Blues coach Michael Maguire. With Mitchell ruled out due to a calf injury, Strange is expected to slot into the centres, partnering with Stephen Crichton in the backline.
Blues' Game II Lineup
The Blues are looking to bounce back after a narrow loss in Game I. The inclusion of Strange adds a youthful spark to the side, which also features experienced campaigners like James Tedesco and Nathan Cleary. Maguire has expressed confidence in Strange's ability to handle the pressure of Origin football.
Strange's selection has been met with excitement from Raiders fans, who have watched him develop through the club's pathways. He becomes the latest Raider to represent NSW, following in the footsteps of legends like Laurie Daley and Ricky Stuart.
The match is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, at Suncorp Stadium. The Blues will be aiming to level the series and keep their hopes alive for a third consecutive series victory.
