Fremantle Dockers coach Justin Longmuir has dismissed external speculation about his coaching future, insisting he is focused solely on preparing the team for the upcoming AFL season. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Longmuir acknowledged the chatter but made it clear that it does not affect his approach.
Longmuir unfazed by outside opinions
“There’s always noise from outside, but I don’t let it distract me or the playing group,” Longmuir said. “My job is to coach this team and get the best out of them. That’s where my energy goes.”
The Dockers have faced a challenging period, with some pundits questioning Longmuir’s position after a mixed run of results. However, the coach remains confident in his methods and the direction of the club.
Support from players and staff
Longmuir emphasised that he has strong backing from within the club. “The support from the players and the football department has been fantastic. We’re all working towards the same goal, and that’s what matters.”
Several key players have also publicly backed their coach, highlighting his leadership and tactical acumen. Midfielder Andrew Brayshaw described Longmuir as a “calm and composed” leader who commands respect.
Focus on the season ahead
With the new season fast approaching, Longmuir is turning his attention to on-field preparations. “We’ve had a solid pre-season, and the boys are hungry to improve. We know what we need to do, and we’re ready to put in the work.”
The Dockers are set to face a tough opening fixture, but Longmuir is optimistic about the team’s prospects. “We’ve got a young, talented group that’s eager to prove themselves. I’m excited to see what we can achieve.”
Longmuir’s contract situation remains a topic of discussion, but he insists it is not a distraction. “Contracts are part of the business, but my focus is on coaching. The results will take care of themselves.”
As the season opener draws closer, the Dockers will be hoping to silence the doubters with strong performances on the field. Longmuir’s steady hand will be crucial in navigating the challenges ahead.
