Australian Olympian Alanah Yukich has shared a deeply emotional and heartbreaking message on social media following the tragic death of her beloved father, Philip. The 400m hurdler and model, who boasts over 160,000 followers on Instagram, posted overnight to express her grief and reflect on her father's enduring legacy.
A Message of Love and Loss
In her poignant post, Yukich wrote that her father is "no longer in pain" and finally "resting easy." She expressed, "Dad, it breaks my heart that you have passed, but knowing you are no longer in pain and resting easy gives me some grace." The athlete described Philip as her "sunshine," the voice in old memories, and a source of warmth and calm during life's challenges.
Yukich credited her father with building a life for her filled with strength, love, and hard work. She recalled early mornings on their family farm in Gingin, Western Australia, and how he taught her to persevere through difficulties. She signed off with, "You will forever live in my heart. Love always, your little farm girl."

Raised on a farm in the small town of Gingin, Yukich later moved to the United States to compete for the University of Texas. After completing her time as a student-athlete, she remained in Texas but recently returned to Australia for the national athletic championships, which served as qualifiers for the Commonwealth Games.
In Sydney, she achieved a silver medal in the 400m hurdles, narrowly finishing second to Sarah Carli. Yukich also made the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, a milestone that filled her father with immense pride. In an interview with the ABC before the Games, Philip expressed his admiration, saying, "Seeing that transformation from a little girl to an athlete ... I feel very proud."
