Western Australian cricket is set to undergo a significant leadership change with the announcement that Adam Voges will step down as state coach at the conclusion of the 2025-26 domestic season.
The 46-year-old's decision, confirmed by WA Cricket on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, brings to a close one of the most successful coaching tenures in the state's cricketing history.
End of an Era for WA Cricket
Voges, who took over the role from Justin Langer shortly after his playing retirement in 2018, has expressed his desire to pursue coaching opportunities in franchise cricket. While he will depart the state program, discussions are ongoing about whether he will continue leading the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
His impact was immediate and profound, with WA securing One-Day cup success in his very first season at the helm. This early triumph heralded the beginning of an unprecedented period of dominance for Western Australian cricket.
Unprecedented Success and Silverware
Under Voges' leadership, Western Australia achieved what few state teams have accomplished. The team completed a remarkable three-peat of Sheffield Shield titles from 2022-2024, establishing themselves as the powerhouse of Australian domestic cricket.
This red-ball success was mirrored in the one-day format, with WA securing a hat-trick of One-Day titles across the same golden period. Voges also oversaw two Big Bash championships with the Perth Scorchers, further cementing his legacy as one of Australia's most successful contemporary coaches.
Developing International Stars
Beyond the trophy cabinet, Voges' tenure has been marked by his exceptional ability to develop talent. His coaching has been instrumental in the rise of several players to international recognition.
Current Australian representatives who flourished under his guidance include Cam Green, Josh Inglis, Jhye Richardson and Cooper Connolly. Their successful transitions to the national team across both red and white-ball formats stand as testament to Voges' developmental prowess.
Reflecting on his eight-season tenure, Voges expressed gratitude for the opportunity. "I'm incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to be in the role of WA Men's team Head Coach over the past eight seasons," he said. "We have enjoyed an incredible amount of success over the past four seasons, which is a credit to everyone involved with the side."
He added, "It's also been really pleasing to oversee many players from WA take the step to international duty and excel playing for their country. While it wasn't an easy decision to make, I'm looking forward to pursuing more coaching opportunities in franchise cricket."
The search for Voges' successor will now begin as WA Cricket looks to maintain the high standards set during his transformative leadership period.
