Tributes are flowing for much-loved hobby trainer Stephen Meyer, who has died following a tragic accident at Scone on Friday. The 71-year-old suffered catastrophic injuries when he was kicked in the back by a horse ahead of the final race of the day and could not be revived.
Devastating Incident at Scone Carnival
The incident occurred on the opening day of Scone's popular two-day carnival, casting a sombre shadow over the event. Racing NSW released a statement expressing deep sorrow, describing Meyer as a dedicated and highly regarded horseman from the Hunter North West district.
"Stephen was known for his integrity, work ethic, and deep lifelong love for thoroughbreds," Racing NSW said. "Operating out of Tamworth, he achieved notable success with his stable star, Danza In The Dark, winner of the 2024 Walcha and Quirindi Cups."
Meyer had brought Danza In The Dark to Scone, and the horse still competed in the final race following the accident.
