South Sydney Rabbitohs Announce Major Stadium Deal for Increased Games at Allianz Stadium

In a significant victory for South Sydney supporters, the club has officially confirmed it is "returning to its heartland" with plans to host more matches at Allianz Stadium. This move follows a successful agreement with the NSW Government and Venues NSW, allowing the Rabbitohs to split their home games between Allianz Stadium in Moore Park and Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park.

Gradual Increase in Games at Allianz Stadium Over Coming Seasons

The Rabbitohs will progressively boost their presence at Allianz Stadium in the upcoming years. This season, they are scheduled to play two games at the venue, but this number will double to four in 2027. From 2028 through 2030, the club will host five games annually at Allianz Stadium. Overall, from 2027 to the end of 2030, a total of 47 home games will be staged between Allianz Stadium and Accor Stadium.

Additionally, the Rabbitohs will play at least one away game at each of these stadiums every year, further solidifying their connection to both locations. This strategic distribution aims to enhance fan access and engagement across Sydney.

Historical Context and Club's Spiritual Home

South Sydney relocated to Accor Stadium in 2006, but prior to that, they played at the old stadium in Moore Park from 1988 to 1999 and again between 2002 and 2005. This history makes Allianz Stadium a cherished spiritual home for the club, evoking nostalgia and pride among long-time supporters.

Rabbitohs chairman Nicholas Pappas hailed the agreement as a "landmark moment for our club." He emphasized that the deal ensures more matches at their spiritual home while preserving their historical link to Accor Stadium, where the team achieved notable successes, including breaking their grand final drought in 2014.

Government Support and Fan Benefits

NSW Premier Chris Minns praised the outcome, highlighting it as a great result for both the state and Rabbitohs fans. He noted that more matches at their two spiritual homes—Accor Stadium and Allianz Stadium—will strengthen the club's legacy as the "pride of the league."

Sports Minister Steve Kamper added that the agreement resolves a "long-running debate" and represents a win for Sydney's football enthusiasts. With more Rabbitohs games scheduled in the city at major stadiums, fans can look forward to increased opportunities to support their team live.

This deal not only honors the Rabbitohs' rich history but also sets a positive trajectory for future seasons, promising exciting matchups and enhanced community engagement for years to come.
