Two people are fighting for life after a house fire south of Brisbane in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Fire breaks out in Brassall, Ipswich

The blaze erupted at a home on Melville Drive in Brassall, Ipswich, shortly before emergency services were alerted at approximately 4:15am.

A man and a woman, both in their 60s, were treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in life-threatening conditions.

Four other occupants—a woman and three children—were assessed by paramedics and found to have no injuries, declining transport to hospital.

Police also rescued a dog from the fire, believed to be uninjured.

Fire investigators are expected to arrive at the property later today to determine the cause of the inferno.

Neighbour recounts terrifying moments

One neighbour told 7NEWS: “We just heard a loud bang. Then I looked outside and saw all these ambulance and fire trucks.”

They added: “It was scary but we were lucky, it didn’t affect us that bad. We’re just happy that the kids are safe.”

Fire crews respond to well-involved blaze

The Queensland Fire Department reported that four crews were dispatched to tackle the fire, which was already “well involved” upon their arrival.

The fire was brought under control by approximately 4:45am, with specialist investigators heading to the home later today to help determine the cause of the blaze.
