Fremantle Leisure Centre Pool Reopens Early for Summer
Fremantle Leisure Centre pool reopens early

In a welcome piece of news for local swimmers, the iconic 50-metre pool at Fremantle Leisure Centre has reopened its doors, perfectly timed with the arrival of Perth's warmer summer weather. The major refurbishment project was completed both ahead of schedule and under budget, offering a significant win for the community.

Major Upgrades Completed Ahead of Schedule

The 50-year-old pool was closed at the end of June to allow for extensive and much-needed upgrades. The significant work included retiling sections of the pool and a full replacement of the ageing filtration system. The City of Fremantle confirmed that the contractor, Paragon Construction Solutions, finished the project a full month earlier than initially planned.

Minimising Disruption for Swimmers

To reduce the impact on the public, the strategic decision was made to carry out the work during the cooler winter months when pool usage is traditionally lower. Throughout the construction period, the centre's other facilities, including the 25m pool, program pool, and leisure playground pool, remained open for use. This ensured that the community still had access to vital swimming and recreational services.

Community Patience Praised as Programs Resume

With the repairs now complete, regular programs and bookings officially resumed on Monday, November 10. Pete Stone, the City of Fremantle's Director of Creative Arts and Community, expressed his gratitude. "We really appreciate everyone's patience, especially the members, regular swimming groups, and squads who used other facilities while these much-needed upgrades were undertaken," Mr. Stone said.

The timely and cost-effective completion of the project means residents can now return to enjoying the full facilities of the Fremantle Leisure Centre just as the summer season kicks into high gear.
