Ring has launched Ring Intercom in Australia, a smart access solution for multi-residential buildings priced at $189. Available from today, the device allows residents to see, speak to, and grant access to visitors directly from their smartphone, whether they are at home, in the office, or overseas.
Research Highlights Widespread Delivery Stress
According to Ring, 79 per cent of Australians living in apartments find it stressful to wait for deliveries when they are not home and unable to provide building access. Meanwhile, 89 per cent say they would find it valuable to let delivery drivers into their building remotely using their phone.
Easy DIY Installation Without Permanent Modifications
The compact device connects to a building's existing intercom system and is designed for DIY installation, with both audio and video versions set up in under 45 minutes. There is no need for structural modifications, drilling, or professional installation, making it suitable for both homeowners and renters.
Remote Access and Verification Features
Through Live Video View and Two-Way Talk, users can communicate with visitors in real time via the Ring app or compatible Echo Show devices. Family members, friends, dog walkers, cleaners, and delivery drivers can be verified and let into the building remotely, helping ensure parcels are not left unattended in communal areas or sent back to the depot.
Virtual Guest Keys and Quick Replies
The system introduces virtual Guest Keys, allowing residents to replace physical keys with secure digital access for trusted visitors. Access can be scheduled for regular visitors such as cleaners or caregivers and revoked instantly when no longer required. Ring Intercom also includes Quick Replies, allowing users to send pre-set messages to visitors. Customers who subscribe to Ring's paid service can receive voicemail messages through the app for later review.
Integration with Alexa and Security Focus
The product integrates with Alexa-enabled devices, allowing hands-free control through voice commands. Security remains a major focus, with Ring highlighting multiple layers of encryption and instant access controls designed to help protect residents and their buildings.
Flexibility for Renters
Perhaps the most appealing feature for renters is its flexibility. Because the device does not require permanent changes to an existing intercom system, it can be removed and taken to a new property when moving house.
As apartment living continues to grow across Australia's major cities, smart home technology is increasingly shifting beyond front doors and security cameras. Ring Intercom represents the next step, bringing connected access control to apartment buildings and offering a solution to one of modern urban living's most common frustrations.
