Artists Invited to Apply for Innovative Two-Day Creative Workshop in Canning

Artists across Western Australia, particularly those from the Canning area and beyond, are being encouraged to submit applications for Gesturing Together: Creative Lab, a unique two-day collaborative workshop designed to expand artistic horizons. This initiative is a joint effort by the City of Canning and the regionally-based arts organisation SPACED, aiming to foster creativity and community among emerging talents.

Workshop Details and Location

The workshop is specifically tailored for early-to-mid career artists, providing a platform for growth and networking. It will take place at the Hillview Intercultural Community Centre in Bentley, scheduled for June 6-7. This venue offers an inclusive environment perfect for artistic exchange and collaboration, ensuring participants can engage fully in the program's activities.

Program Highlights and Selection Process

Gesturing Together will bring together 20 WA-based artists through a competitive selection process, ensuring a diverse representation of creative disciplines such as visual arts, performance, and digital media. Over the weekend, attendees will participate in a rich schedule including interactive conversations, hands-on activities, peer-to-peer sharing sessions, and insightful talks led by guest artists and industry experts. To support a focused and enjoyable experience, lunch and catering will be provided throughout the event.

Community Impact and Support

Mayor Patrick Hall emphasised the significance of this workshop, stating, "We recognise the importance of art in transforming the City of Canning into a welcoming and thriving city. This workshop, a first of its kind in Canning, will allow up-and-coming artists from the city and beyond to share their processes and experiences and learn from other artists." He added, "We have many talented creatives in Canning and the city is committed to creating opportunities for them to grow, thrive and succeed within the creative industries." This initiative underscores the city's dedication to nurturing local talent and enhancing the cultural landscape.
