Charges Dropped Against Teacher Who Gave Birth to Student's Baby

Some charges against a music teacher who abused a student and gave birth to his baby will be discontinued. Naomi Tekea Craig pleaded guilty to 15 charges — including sexual penetration of a child under the age of 13, sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, and indecent dealings with a child under 13 — in January.

Court Proceedings and Discontinued Charges

Craig, who previously worked at Frederick Irwin Anglican School, south of Perth in WA, is yet to plead to several additional charges. A court was told on Friday that some of those would be discontinued. Speaking outside court, defence lawyer Michael Tudori said discussions with the state are ongoing.

“There are a couple of charges being discontinued. It’s just fine-tuning the events that happened during the period of offending,” he said, not disclosing the charges. Craig remains on bail under conditions and will be sentenced on November 17.

Background of the Case

Craig was charged in December before additional allegations were levelled against her by detectives from the Child Abuse Squad in January. The persistent sexual abuse of the student happened between 2024 and 2025. Craig, who is reportedly married, gave birth to the victim’s child in January.
