A manhunt is underway after an engineering student was allegedly attacked by two strangers while sitting in his car waiting for a friend in Melbourne's central business district.
The 26-year-old was sitting in his parked car on Little Collins Street at about 11.45pm on March 28 when two men allegedly poured alcohol over his windscreen. When the student got out of the car to confront them, tempers quickly flared.
Dashcam footage captured the moment he was thrown to the ground, with his head hitting the bonnet, before a glass bottle was smashed over him. The victim told 7NEWS he was punched in the face and repeatedly kicked during the attack.
The pair allegedly walked away, leaving the student seriously injured on the road. Passers-by rushed to help before he was taken to hospital with a broken jaw.
“I have a broken jaw,” he said. “Three sides have been broken and I had three surgeries and two months without food, without moving much.”
Almost three months later, he is still recovering from his injuries and his alleged attackers remain at large. The international student, who has been in Australia for three years, said the attack had left him feeling unsafe.
Police have released images of two men they believe may be able to assist with their investigation, who are both believed to be in their mid-20s. The first man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, with short brown hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, black jacket, black pants and black-and-white runners.
The second man is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance and medium build, with short brown hair. He was wearing a grey T-shirt, black hooded top, black pants and white runners.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, has footage, or has information about the identity of the pair is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
